2017 Western Kansas Scholastic Art Awards Show is at the Liberal Baker Arts Center.  The judges where Susan Koons, Artist, Adjunct Professor SCCC; Roger Lynch, Retired Art Teacher, current Industrial Art Teacher at Liberal High School; and Jessica Strickland, Graphic Designer, Baker Arts Center Coordinator.  They had a hard job this year with 528 total entries to judge from 311 students in 13 categories.  This year numbers increased to 27 educators that submitted entries from the 33 counties that our region covers. 

We are pleased to announce there are 5 American Vision, 58 Gold Key, 73 Silver Key and 104 Honorable Mention award winning pieces that will be on display January 24th through February 26th.   Stanton County has 23 pieces in this year show 6 Gold Key, 5 Silver Key, 12 Honorable Mention pieces.  Caleb Carrasco, Film & Animation; Carlee Gum, Design for Google; and Ally Anderson, Whitney Davis, Vanessa Gallegos, and Bailey Sipes; photography entries, all received Gold Key’s and their projects will compete in March at the National Level.  For a full list please go to usd452.org

The WKSAA is an affiliate of the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards show and all American Vision and Gold Key award winning artworks go on and compete nationally.  In 2016 WKSAA had One National American Vision, 4 National Gold Medals and 2 National Silver Medals.  Syracuse, Liberal, Stanton County, and Wheatland all had students invited to the National Reception at Carnegie Hall in June 2016 which was an amazing experience for all involved.
