USD #452 Stanton County Continual Learning Plan

Posted Date: 04/06/2020

This plan has been developed in conjunction with the administration, the board of education, faculty, staff, and community health officials. This continual learning plan is intended to provide primarily a virtual education to all students in Stanton County until our normally scheduled last day of school, which is May 15, 2020.

1. HEALTH & SAFETY

  • The administration and board of education of USD #452 placed the safety of every resident of Stanton County as its top priority.
  • All faculty and staff have been placed on limited to no access to our facilities unless they are essential personnel needed for maintenance, food service, custodial or administration. All staff in buildings have been asked to adhere to the social distancing recommendations, staying six feet apart, not coming in if they feel ill or are exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19.
  • The three offices in the district have been closed and the administration, secretaries and support staff are working from home. As needed they come into the office to complete tasks that can’t be performed from home. All three offices have established office hours from 8:30 to 11:30 am for phone calls and only one individual is allowed in the office at that time.
  • From time to time some items may need to be sent home to students. Every precaution will be taken to ensure those items have been sanitized prior to their dispersal.
  • Mr. Horn is a member of the Stanton County health committee that meets regularly to discuss school updates as well as state and county health concerns.

2. ACADEMIC SUPPORT

  • All staff was provided professional development to assist them in learning the virtual platforms they will use to carry out the virtual education. They were provided professional development to learn to use the Chromebook, how to communicate with students virtually, create videos for classroom lessons and upload them to their virtual classrooms. Current staff members, online resources and videos were utilized for professional development.
  • Staff members contacted all students to ensure they have access to the internet. In the event they did not, they were instructed to contact Pioneer Communications to arrange to have internet service provided in their home free of charge until the end of May. If they are still unable to secure internet service in their home, Pioneer Communications installed an access point at the junior/senior high school that can be accessed in the parking lot. Another option to secure internet service is to check out a Myfi hotspot from the Stanton County library.
  • All students have been provided a Chromebook to use for virtual learning. All programs needed to conduct the virtual learning were placed on the Chromebooks prior to their dispersal.
  • In the event that you are having technical difficulties with your Chromebook, Donnie has created an email support system. Please send any support questions to support@usd452.org.
  • The elementary grades K-3rd are planning to use a program called Seesaw for their virtual classrooms. This program will allow families to contact the teacher, view video lessons, locate homework assignments and access any other information the teacher has provided. To communicate with families they will utilize Google Hangouts to conduct face-to-face meetings with students and guardians.
  • PreK-1st grade have opted to send home some items. Precautions will be taken to ensure they have been sanitized prior to their dispersal.
  • Grades 4-12 will be using Google Classroom for their virtual classrooms. This program will allow families to contact the teacher, view video lessons, locate homework assignments and access any other information the teacher has provided. To communicate with families they will utilize Google Hangouts to conduct face-to-face meetings with students and guardians.
  • Students needing additional supports will receive the help they need from support staff such as special education teachers, paras, title teachers, ESL coordinators or by communicating with the regular education teacher. Every effort will be made to provide the supports in accordance to their IEP, 504 plan, ESL services or SIT plan. Please understand this is a new educational format that all staff members are trying to learn. If you need additional supports or have any questions, please contact the classroom teacher or principal and they can assist you.
  • Career and technical education will be provide learning opportunities as well. If a virtual education is possible, the classroom teacher will do so using Google Classroom and Google Hangouts. Those courses that are project based will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Special provisions may be made to allow students to access the building to complete the project. Approval by the superintendent of schools must be granted to the classroom teacher prior to this occurring.

3. SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

  • The counselors at the elementary and junior/senior high school will continue to offer guidance and support to all students. Any students who wishes to speak with a counselor simply needs to email them. A list of contact information is included in this continual learning plan.
  • The counselors will also be posting social emotional support videos and or resources on our social media pages to assist families with their social emotional needs.

4. ACCESS TO FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES

  • All USD #452 facilities are closed to non-essential personnel. This includes, all buildings, playgrounds, football fields, the track and the swimming pool.
  • All activities have been cancelled. USD #452 is adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Governor of Kansas, limiting the social grouping of people to less than 10.
  • Considerations for high school graduation are being made. However, at this time no plan has been decided upon or communicated outside of the administrative team due to the uncertainty of the Covid-19 situation. As more information about the virus is made available, the administrative team will discuss options for rescheduling this event.
